Record wildfire seasons are touching the lives of Hosts and guests globally. It’s more important than ever to have plans in case of wildfire to protect yourself, your guests, and your property.
You can always plan ahead in case of wildfire in your community. IAFC’s Ready, Set, Go! program is a great resource for tips on wildfire safety. Though the program is U.S.-based, its tips can apply to anyone around the world.
Here are a few of IAFC’s suggestions:
- — Remove overgrown vegetation within 30 feet (nine meters) of your house, garage, and other buildings on your property to help create defensible space.
- — Use hard surfaces—like concrete, rock, or pavers—five feet (one-and-a-half meters) around the base of your house.
- — Use fire-resistant, low-growing, herbaceous vegetation when planting in areas close to your house.
- — Remove low-hanging branches to create at least six feet (two meters) of distance between grasses, shrubs, and taller trees.
To stay informed while hosting, you can sign up for emergency alerts in the area where your property is located. Most are available on your town, city, or state’s website. This way, you can get info about what’s happening even if you’re not nearby while you have guests.
Listing your vacation rental property on Lake is free. It is only when a booking takes place that platform fees come into play.
At Lake, fees are charged to Hosts and Guests. When a Guest makes a booking, he or she pays a 3% service fee per booking. Lake charges a 5% platform fee to Hosts per booking, which is deducted from the booking’s subtotal amount.
Lake will send you payment for a booking after the first night’s stay is completed. You will be paid by automatic bank deposit as linked within your Lake account.
We focus on vacation rental properties that are on or near the water. While we welcome all properties, the closer you are to the water, the better you will do on Lake. Water qualifies as lakes, rivers, ponds, streams, babbling brooks, springs, waterfalls, and last but not least, oceans (we admit, we might have missed a body of water in here!). Most people using Lake are looking for a traditional cottaging or cabin experience in nature with access to water.
Lake has a partnership with Hospitable. With one click of a button, Lake customers can use Hospitable Connect to connect their Airbnb account and list their properties on Lake.
